Coronavirus: information for patients with chronic respiratory disease

If  you experience symptoms such as unusual cough, unusual shortness of breath, fever above 38°C, chills, headache, sore throat, muscle pain, diarrhea, loss of taste or smell, please contact your family doctor

Vulnerable people

If you are taking treatment that weakens your immune system or have one of the following chronic respiratory diseases:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, GOLD stages II-IV
  • Pulmonary emphysema
  • Uncontrolled bronchial asthma, especially severe
  • Interstitial lung diseases / pulmonary fibrosis
  • Active lung cancer
  • Pulmonary arterial hypertension
  • Pulmonary vascular disease
  • Active sarcoidosis
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Chronic pulmonary infections (atypical mycobacteriosis, bronchiectasis, etc.)
  • Patients on respiratory assistance
  • Diseases associated with severely reduced lung capacity

you are one of the people particularly vulnerable to the COVID-19 coronavirus. The same applies if you are pregnant, have Down syndrome or have one of the diseases listed by the OFSP (appendix 6).

We advise you to follow the specific recommendations which concern vulnerable people. In your particular case, we also recommend that you follow the Lung League's instructions for people with lung and respiratory tract diseases.

Do not interrupt or change your treatment without medical advice.

If you develop symptoms such as unusual cough, unusual shortness of breath, fever above 38°C, chills, headache, sore throat, muscle pain, diarrhea, loss of taste or smell, stay home and contact immediately by telephone to your attending physician. Report that you are in the coronavirus vulnerable group and that you have symptoms.
